Accumulation of Non-Places
Mixed Media
Non-Place, is a neologism coined by the French anthropologist Marc Auge to refer to anthropological spaces of transience where the human beings remain anonymous and that do not hold enough significance to be regarded as 'places'. Examples of non-places are motorways, hotel rooms, airports and shopping malls. I am intrigued by non-places. Having no obvious owner or identity they seem lost and overlooked. There is a sense of familiarity, yet at the same time mystery to them. This artworks depicts the non-places I passed when driving from home to the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
